Week 6

Memorial Day and week 6 equals a light week in the assignments. I am in the process of moving and packing and this week was a much needed break to help get some of those things done. Moving across the country is hard work!
This week we read articles/talk and watched videos centered around self mastery. This is an essential skill to learn - one that we are constantly striving to perfect and one that helps us in all aspects of our lives.
The talk we read by N Eldon Tanner was given in 1975 but the principles are still as relevant today. He suggests 2 things to help on our journey to self mastery. The first is to determine our course and the second is will power. We must first know where we are going and what our purpose and objective are. If we don't know this it is too easy to flounder and lose our way. Will power is a little different. It is a constant trying to overcome carnal desires and live to be more spiritual and Christ-like. Sometimes will power goes against our very nature as human being. I think that was one of the challenges God gave us when He sent us here. He wanted us to feel and experience temptations and learn to overcome them and draw closer to Him.
One of the other concepts I liked this week was the idea that entrepreneurship has to be hard or requires a lengthy business plan. Just the opposite. Most did not write a business plan or have a well thought out plan. Instead they had a great idea they were passionate about, knew their industry and worked hard. I believe some people are born sales people. It takes a certain personality to do well in a sales job. I also believe this about entrepreneurs. One of the entrepreneurs in the video talked about how they are that way regardless of what else is popular or well received at the moment. It is simply who they are and what they were born to do.
I'm looking forward to continuing in the self mastery book and learning about upcoming topics. The more I learn about this course the more I like it. I may never be an entrepreneur but I am learning skills that will help me in life and business nonetheless.
