This week we completed our first book report on the book Launching Leaders by Steven Hitz. I enjoyed the book. It wasn't lengthy or over done. It was easy to understand and had lots of step by step lists to make it easy to follow along. he has some sound advise not only for business men and women but I think it applies to personal lives as well. We could take the advise and apply it to our personal lives only and be more successful humans. One of my favorite parts of the book is to put God first and align our wants with His for us. This is of critical importance if we want to be successful and happy in our lives. Asking advise of a higher power does a few things - first it gives us affirmation that our choices are good ones and the direction we should go. Second it proves us with help and guidance as we go follow through with our decisions. I'm looking forward to reading and reporting on the other books in this course. I don't know what a career looks like for me since I ...
This week's intro to Business class (week 3) was a good one. We read our first case study about Magdalena Yesil. She is very inspiring!  She took every opportunity she could to learn new things and expand her knowledge. While she is inspiring and admirable, I don't think I would have chosen the same path. She was able to travel at a moments notice because her mother lived with her and her family and always there to take care of her kids. For  me, it is important to be with my kids as much as possible and to be the person to raise them. I think she found a way to make it work but I know it would not have worked for me. She came a long way from an all girls school in Turkey with limited opportunities, to the US where she helped start many successful businesses. While I could not have make the same decisions regarding my kids and work life, I really admired the way she strove to work hard and learn as much as possible. If she was unfamiliar with an aspect of the business she was ...

Intro to Business Week 2

Week 2 of the spring semester brings us into the full swing of things. We are finished with the easy intro week and now are onto the meat of the course. I like these structured weeks because I begin to learn what to expect and know how best to structure my time. This week one of our big assignments was to create a stepping stone of what we'd like our life and career to look like at the end of our lives. We watched videos and read excerpts from successful businessmen as they shared what they felt helped make them successful and what is important as we progress on this career or entrepreneurial path. It was suggested that we start with the end in mind. I like this because if we don't know where we want to end up it is difficult to know where to start or how to get there. I was able to take a look at the big picture and figure out what I want to do with my education and career. This is a little different for me than it might be for younger students who will have a ling career. I...
